I love my job. For those that don't know what I do . . . I am an Occupational Therapist. I help people live as independently as possible with whatever disability that they have. It's a rehab profession. You may have come in contact with OTs in hospitals, school systems, clinics, work settings (ergonomists), as well as mental health settings). I work at a skilled nursing facility and work with people who have hip replacements, knee replacements, cardiac issues, strokes, fractures from falls, etc. We work closely with physical therapists and speech therapists to get the patient back to their prior level of function before they went to the hospital.
For some reason, people still think that I am a "job" therapist. I don't help people get jobs or anything related to jobs. Back in the day (WWII), when the profession was created they used the word "occupation" to mean activity. I help people get back to the job of living. For example: if there is someone who has a stroke and is unable to use their left side, I re-teach them how to dress, cook or go about their everyday activities so they don't have to depend on others. My philosophy is if you love your job you never have to work a day in your life. And I love my job.
Here is a video that I think explains what I do a little bit more . . .
