A crazy couple of weeks . . . .

In the past couple of weeks that has been a lot going on in my family. My brother Brandon, sis in-law Angela and my nephew Ethan arrived on March 14th. Ethan has been looking forward to his trip to California. The next day on Sunday we were all able to be there for Joshua's blessing, my new little nephew. We had a brunch at my sister's house and able to spend time as a family.

On Monday Angela, Brandon, Ethan, my dad and I went to the Academy of Sciences. Ethan loved looking at the different types of fish and just spending time running around. Afterwards we went to Japan town to shop and get ice cream.

Then we made a trip to Urgent Care because Ethan was at the barber with Brandon and slipped on some hair and hurt his leg again. This is a picture of Brandon that Ethan took while we were waiting for the xray results.

Our cousins arrived on Friday, but that evening I got to go see Wicked!! I absolutely love the music and the musical. It was a lot of fun. :)

Then on Saturday was David & Angie's wedding. It was a lot of work with a few hiccups but it was a success and it was a lot of fun.

And my vacation ended with spending time with my cousin Valynne in SF in the Mission District, Noe Valley and at Brian's place. Here is a pic of the gourmet cupcakes that we got at Noe Valley Bakery. A red velvet, lemon & boston cream pie cupcake. I would definitely recommend the red velvet cupcake but all of them were delicious.

My vacation ended up being not a total vacation with all the festivities that was taking place but I still had a lot of fun. I love my family.

Advice from my patient . . .

96 year old, D.S. - "I sleep with my bra on."

(random comment, I know) but I press further - "Why do you sleep with your bra on?"

D.S. - "Well, if you keep your bra on, your husband can't fondle your boobs while you are sleeping."

me (absolutely dumbfounded) - "oh"

D.S. - "Men love to fondle the boobs, even at night."

This is why my job is never dull. :)

I don't understand shady people . . .

So my coworkers and I went to Vegas a couple of weekends ago. It was a fast weekend get away and we stayed at the Trump Towers which was way fun. Being in Vegas we took advantage of the going to the outlets and shopping practically all day. We were having so much fun until the Kate Spade store, round 2. Round 1 was fun because we went in there and I found the cutest little black purse that was practically half off the original price. Now I really didn't need another purse, since earlier that day I purchased another purse, but this one was really cute.

After much deliberation, I decided to not buy it and we went shopping at other places. Towards the end of our shopping excursion we went back into the Kate Spade store one more time to look at the purse.

We got into the store (round 2) and I tried the purse on for size. I put my cell phone in the purse to see if it would fit and then decided I would buy the purse. So, I went to the register and I got a call from Jennie who was with Vicky a few stores down. I gave the phone to Hiroko to tell her where we were and then continued with the purchase. I left the store super excited about my new purchase and took basically three steps out the door and realized I didn't have my cell phone. Went back inside and it wasn't there. We looked EVERYWHERE. We looked for a good 15-20 minutes searching for the phone. We tried calling the phone and the first couple of times it rang and went to voicemail and then the next time we called it it went straight to voicemail which meant someone turned it off.

I was frustrated and annoyed because it didn't make any sense as to where it would have gone since I was only gone a few seconds. The clerks weren't very helpful either and when we inquired about the security cameras they said it wouldn't be accessed until Monday and we would have to call corporate. So I returned my bag that I just bought there because I said I couldn't justify buying the purse if I was going to have to buy a new phone. We left our information for us to be contacted and went to the food court. No more than 10 minutes later we get a call back that they found the phone. According to them they said the phone dropped into one of the bags that was by where the black purse was. But it didn't make any sense because I wasn't even near that area after I had the phone call. So my theory is that it was the employee that stole the phone and created this bogus story so she wouldn't get in trouble. LAME people all for a cell phone!! Dumb. But I am just glad I got the phone back.

But overall it was a fun Vegas trip, despite the stupid Kate Spade girl. Pics will be available on my smugmug soon. :)

P.S. I tried to find a picture of the purse, but for some reason it is no where to be found.

Pseudo - Boss

So my friends are complaining that I haven't written anything in a long time. I guess I don't necessarily have an excuse to not write anything because there are plenty of things that are going on in my life.

One of them being that I had the interesting experience of taking over my boss's job (Director of Rehab) for a whole month. I have been expecting it for a while and so I was what I thought already emotionally prepared to begin the task of taking over and dealing with the daily schedule, manager's meetings, staffing issues and all the family/managers/therapist's issues that come into play.

I always thought I would one day do a job like this because leadership roles tend to drift towards me and I thought I would find it enjoyable.

I wouldn't say that I hated it, but I wouldn't say that I loved it either. It is interesting to work in a health care system with the dynamics of being a place that helps people but at the same time it still is a business. While I was boss for the month we were what you call "low census" which meant that we were low patients in our facility. The managers get stressed out because as I said before, it is still a business and they try to figure out how to make ends meet. When they get all stressed out they put a lot of pressure on the rehab team to make sure that we aren't sending our patients home too soon. It was definitely an interesting experience.

Maybe I will end up doing this role but when I was doing this job I missed treating patients. It made me realize why I am in this profession. I love the interaction with my patients and knowing that I am making a difference in their lives. But I am definitely glad that my boss is back and I have a better appreciation for what she does.
